TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Sinta Nuriyah Wahid, wife of former president Abdurrahman ‘Gus Dur’ Wahid, said that neither herself nor the foundation she chairs, Puan Amal Hayati, ever received funds, directly or indirectly, from Tommy Suharto, the youngest son of former president Suharto. Sinta announced this during a press conference held at Jakarta Police headquarters in Jakarta this afternoon (8/1). This conference followed a police questioning in which Sinta was deemed a witness in an alleged case of Rp 15-billion fraud and corruption as reported by Tommy Soeharto to police recently. According to Sinta, she had never received funds from someone named Raden Dodi Sumadi, as has been alleged. Dodi is said to have received Rp 15-billion from Tommy and apparently allocated Rp 5 billion of this to the Puan Amal Hayati foundation. Sinta said she had come to Jakarta Police headquarters to undergo police questioning as she honored the legal process. “As a good citizen, I come here to fulfill the summons,” she said. Sinta also filed a complaint against former Jakarta Police chief Sofjan Jacoeb, and Tommy Suharto’s lawyer Elza Syarief. She did this because she believes they have ruined her reputation. In her view Sofjan and Elza have repeatedly alleged she received funds from Tommy. “ I feel that my own name and the name of my family has been ruined by all of this. Not only that, their statements have damaged the foundation that I chair,” Sinta said. She said she requested police to investigate this matter. The Wahid family legal advisor, Luhut Pangaribuan, who accompanied Sinta during the questioning, said his client had answered 12 questions from police detectives. Luhut explained that the questions mainly dealt with whether or not Sinta’s foundation had ever received funds from Dodi Sumadi. “Mrs. Wahid said she had never met, let alone been acquainted with, Dodi Sumadi. Besides, she had never received any donation in any form, including funds,” Luhut said. Luhut said that Sinta planned to file a lawsuit against Sofyan and Elza this January. Luhut said the material losses filed might be no less than Rp 100 million. “We’re still calculating the immaterial losses on the lawsuit,” he said. Sinta admitted that she once met Tommy Suharto at the Regent Hotel in Jakarta. Sinta said, “We just joked at the time.” According to Luhut, he and his clients did not know that there was any meeting between Gus Dur and Tommy at the Regent Hotel. Luhut stated that after attending a wedding reception, Gus Dur and family suddenly headed to the Regent Hotel. It turned out Tommy was there. “After meeting Tommy, Mrs. Wahid did knew nothing of what Tommy and Gus Dur did,” Luhut explained. He added that the detour to the hotel was arranged by presidential protocol officers.
